Before you prepare for your next gaming day, try to whip up this unique jello recipe—a gelatinous cube full of dice! I made this for a potluck years ago, with the promise that any dice in you ate, you kept. One of my players nearly chucked, thanks to his undying need to get free dice!
Ingredients
You will need a square-shaped dish that can hold a little more than six cups of water. We used an old [and heavily washed] plastic fish tank, but anything you can get your hands on works!
- 1 Chessex Pound o’ Dice – read till the end to find places selling it cheap
- 4 (3 ounce) packages of different colors/flavors of Jell-O, green and yellow preferred
- 2 1/2 cups of boiling water, divided
- 2 1/2 cups of cold water, divided
- 1 cup evaporated milk, divided
Substitute the evaporated milk for coconut milk, if desired.
Directions
- First Layer. Boil 3/4 cup hot water. Add the first package of jello and stir until dissolved. Stir in 3/4 cup cold water. Pour into large, square-shaped dish. Chill 20 minutes.
- Drop a handful of dice into jello, divided evenly. Chill for another 20 minutes.
- Second Layer. Boil 1/2 cup hot water. Add the second package of jello and stir until dissolved. Stir in 1/2 cup cold water and 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Gently pour over the top of the first layer. Chill for 20 minutes.
- Drop a second handful of dice into jello, divided evenly. Chill for another 10 minutes.
- Third Layer. Boil 3/4 cup hot water. Add the third package of jello and stir until dissolved. Stir in 3/4 cup cold water. Gently pour over second layer. Chill for 20 minutes.
- Drop a third handful of dice into jello, divided evenly. Chill for another 10 minutes.
- Fourth Layer. Boil 1/2 cup hot water. Add the fourth package of jello and stir until dissolved. Stir in 1/2 cup cold water and 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Gently pour over the top of the third layer. Chill for 20 minutes.
- Drop a fourth handful of dice into jello, divided evenly. Chill for another 10 minutes.
After about an hour and a half of prep, you should have yourself a dice-filled, gelatinous cube, ready for adventurers to plunder!
